Ad and Link Settings

Q: How can I block an ad or advertiser?
A: Please contact us via the Help tab in the Publisher Center if you’d like to block a specific ad or advertiser. Be sure to include a screenshot of the ad you would like blocked to help us identify it. Also, please let us know your specific reasons for your request so we can find the best solution for your needs. Our Support Team will tend to your request within 3 business days.

Q: Can I change the appearance of an ad?
A: Publishers cannot alter the appearance of the ads. They are designed for the highest-performance in mind.

Q: How can I enable ads to open in a new window?
A: You can insert the following line of code into your Kontera tags in order to enable ads to appear in a new window:  var  dc_open_new_win = ‘yes’;
The correct placement for this line of code is below:

<!-- Kontera(TM);-->
<script type="text/javascript">
    var dc_AdLinkColor = '#####';
    var dc_PublisherID = #####;
    var dc_open_new_win = 'yes';

</script>
<script type="text/javascript" SRC="http://kona.kontera.com/javascript/lib/KonaLibInline.js"></script>
<!-- end Kontera(TM) -->

Keep in mind that this change may present an issue because of browser pop-up blockers, so please use this with caution and review your metrics to ensure that there are no adverse effects on your results after implementing this function.

Q: I see Kontera ads appearing beneath a Flash element of my page. How do I fix this?
A: While this is a rare occurrence, when our ads appear beneath a Flash element on your page, please make the following adjustments to the code of your Flash element in order to fix this:

• For an <OBJECT> tag, add the following parameter: <param name="wmode" value="transparent">
• For an <EMBED> tag, add the following parameter: wmode="transparent

Q: Can I ensure Kontera loads specific words as links?
A: In order to ensure the most lucrative outcome for our partners, Kontera's technology utilizes advanced algorithms that analyze your site's content, extract and rank topics and keywords, and then match them to the most relevant and highest-paying ads and information.  Therefore, with yield maximization in mind, Kontera cannot fulfill requests to load specific keywords as links.

Q: How can I block a word from being highlighted as a link?
A: Please contact us via the Help tab in the Publisher Center if you’d like to block a word from being loaded as link. Be sure to let us know your specific reasons for your request so we can find the best solution for your needs. Our Support Team will tend to your request within 3 business days.

Q: What is the best Kontera link color?
A: There isn't one Kontera link color which guarantees better results. However, the key to choosing a well-performing link color is to ensure that it:

• Stands out from the rest of your text
• Can be easily read when it appears as a link

For example, our default blue link color is difficult to read against a black background so if your site has a black background, our default blue link color would result in low CTR. Likewise, if the color of your text is black, then choosing black as your Kontera link color will result in very few clicks.

<!-- Kontera(TM);-->
<script type='text/javascript'>
var dc_AdLinkColor = 'blue' ;
var dc_PublisherID = ###### ;

</script>
<script type='text/javascript' src='http://kona.kontera.com/javascript/lib/KonaLibInline.js'>
</script>
<!-- end Kontera(TM) -->

Q: How can I change the Kontera link color?
A: Changing the link color can influence user click-through rate (CTR) as well as assist in maintaining a coherent look and feel throughout your site. Bright link colors that stand out from the rest of your text and that allows the text to be easily read yield the highest CTR.

Publishers that choose link colors that make it hard for users to read the text of the link usually see very low CTR. For example, our default blue link color used on a page with a black background will make the link difficult to read, resulting in low CTR. Low CTR also results from publishers who use the same link color as the rest of their text.

Kontera’s default link color is “blue”. To change your link color:

1.  Login to your account via the Publisher Center and enter the "Kontera Setup" tab.

2.  Pick the color that you’d like from the color palette window.

3.  Your selection will automatically be reflected in a new tag created for you in the window below.

4.  Copy and paste this tag right before the </BODY> tag on every page on your site where you want Kontera to load links.

You may want to experiment with different colors to see if this has any effect on your click through rates.

Alternatively, you can change your Kontera link color within the code by placing the HEX code of the color you’d like within the area highlighted below of your Kontera tag:

<!-- Kontera(TM);-->
<script type='text/javascript'>
var dc_AdLinkColor = 'blue' ;
var dc_PublisherID = ###### ;

</script>
<script type='text/javascript' src='http://kona.kontera.com/javascript/lib/KonaLibInline.js'>
</script>
<!-- end Kontera(TM) -->

Q: What is the best number of Kontera links on my pages?
A: The ideal number of Kontera links depends on its layout and the length of your pages.

There is no magic number, but having too few can adversely affect performance. In order to generate the most revenue with Kontera, it is more important to make sure that the analysis is reaching all of the relevant areas of each page, without cluttering or neglecting any appropriate text.

Q: How can I limit the number of links loaded per page?
A: Please contact us via the Help tab in the Publisher Center if you’d like to limit the number of links loaded per page. Be sure to let us know your specific reasons for your request so we can find the best solution for your needs. Our Support Team will tend to your request within 3 business days.

Please keep in mind that reducing the number of links per page may reduce your overall earnings, so review your site metrics after the change has been enacted to ensure that it has not adversely affected your site’s performance.

Likewise, this change can be reversed  by using the "Help" tab in the Kontera Publisher Center to send us an email requesting that the link limit be changed. Although the maximum amount of links can be specified, we are not able to specify a minimum number of links be loaded per page (i.e. “I want at least 8 links per page”)

Q: How can I alter the density of links on my site?
A: Please contact us via the Help tab in the Publisher Center if you’d like to alter the link density on your site. Be sure to let us know your specific reasons for your request so we can find the best solution for your needs. Our Support Team will tend to your request within 3 business days.

Q: What is the best area of the page for Kontera links to appear?
A: The best area for Kontera links is where the most relevant content on each page is.

Generally, this is the top of the page, so it is best to ensure that this area is not omitted from analysis by the usage of Zone or Filter tags.

In some cases such as forums, the most recent entries are at the bottom of a page in which case it is important to ensure that the analysis is reaching these areas as well.

Basically, the more areas you have with good textual content, the better your chances are to generate revenue with Kontera.

Q: How can I block Kontera from loading links in specific areas of my site?
A: Kontera offers two tools to help you specify which areas on your site's pages will be analyzed and may potentially load links: Zone Tags and Filter Tags.

Zone Tags

Zone Tags tell our JavaScript which areas to analyze. They are useful in keeping our ads out of navigation bars, headers, footers and titles. Zone Tags can be used multiple times on any given page. When employing Zone Tags please ensure that each tag is opened and closed separately.  Here is how to use them:

Like any tag it has an open tag (<div class="KonaBody"> ) and closing tag ( </div>).
The following is an example of how they work:

<div class="KonaBody">Text to be analyzed </div>

Filter Tags

Filter Tags are used in order to define an area of the page where Kontera cannot load links. All other areas of the page—areas not enclosed in Filter Tags—may potentially load links. Here is how to use them:

Like any tag it has an open tag <div class="KonaFilter"> and closing tag  </div>.

The following is an example of how they work:

<div class="KonaFilter"> Content to be excluded from analyzing  </div>

Please use Filter Tags with caution in order to prevent unintentional exclusion of large areas.

Using Zone and Filter Tags to block ads from appearing on your site's headers, footers, and sidebars ultimately improves your overall CTR and eCPM.

Important Note:
Zone and Filter Tags should not be used on the same page to avoid potential technical issues.

We recommend using either Zone or Filter Tags on a specific page rather than both. However, you can interchange Zone and Filter Tags from page to page on your site depending on your needs.

Reporting

Q: When will I see data in reporting?
A: Data will be available for you within 24 hours of implementing the Kontera tag on your site. Login to the Publisher Center and review all of your account's information and stats.

Q: Why do my metrics fluctuate?
A: Metrics fluctuate because advertisers bid against other advertisers for our inventory. The ads displayed on your site depend on the campaigns that are running at the time your pages are loaded, and the CPCs change daily as do the actual ads themselves—which is why you will typically see different CPCs and CTRs from one day to the next. In addition, CPCs and ad inventory vary by geographic region, so your site’s traffic mix also impacts your metrics.

Payments

Q: What are Kontera’s payment terms and what information do I need to provide in order to receive payment?
A:
Payment Terms

Our payment terms are Net 40 when balance exceeds US $50.

This means we send publishers their revenue by Check, PayPal, Wire transfer or ACH, 40 days after the month that they earned revenue, when the account balance reaches US $50, unless a payment hold exists or unless requested by the publisher in their payment information.

For example, if you earn $30 in February and $40 in March, we'll send payment to you within 40 days of March 31st.

If your account balance is less than US $50 at the end of the month, earnings (for all your sites combined) are rolled forward to the following month, until the payment threshold is reached.

What information do I need to provide?

All publishers must complete our Account Info, Tax Information and Payment Method sections in order to receive payment.

All three sections are found in the "My Account" tab of the Publisher Center.

Please note that if required documents have not been successfully submitted and/or if your account is found to be in violation of our Terms and Conditions, agreements or policies, we may at any time withhold payment.

Q: What do the various accounting terms in the Publisher Center mean?
The following is a brief overview of the terms used in the Publisher Center "Payment Method" tab:

Payment Methods:

Paypal -  Paypal is an online alternative to the more traditional forms of payment such as WIRE or check payments.  Kontera does not charge a fee for PayPal payments.

WIRE payments -   A traditional form of electronic payments available to non-U.S. accounts.  While reliable, there is a $30.00 fee for each Wire payment Kontera issues to a publisher’s account (simply the fee our bank charges for a WIRE payment)

International EFT -  A form of electronic payment for non-U.S. accounts. While there is a fee for each WIRE payment issued by Kontera, there is no fee on Kontera’s end for International EFT payments.

The following is a list of countries to which we are able to offer international EFT payments: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Mexico, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

Recipient Bank Information:

Beneficiary Bank RTN (Routing Transit Number) or SWIFT BIC (SWIFT Bank Identifier Code)– Most international bank transfers are sent using SWIFT codes.  These are international codes used by banks to identify themselves to one another; in essence, it is an alpha-numeric recognition code.   SWIFT codes range from 8-11 alphanumeric characters. If you do not know your SWIFT code, your bank should be able to provide you with this information with little difficulty.

Beneficiary Account Number - a number which identifies the account to which payments should be sent.

International Sort / Routing / Clearing Code - Applicable when choosing international EFT/Wire.  Similar to the beneficiary routing number in domestic (i.e. US) EFT payments; it is used specifically in bank transfers to articulate the branch to which the payment should be sent. As one can see, there are various names (i.e. sort code/clearing code) for the ISRCC due to differences in how this data is referenced from country to country.

Beneficiary Routing Number - This is a numeric code, which identifies the banking institution of the account holder; it directs electronic EFT/ACH deposits to the proper banking institution.  For U.S account holders, the routing number is a bank code composed of 9 digits.

Sort Code - Some countries refer to the international routing number as the sort code (i.e. The United Kingdom).  They are often six digit delineations of bank branch.

Intermediary Bank Information:

Intermediary Bank Information - A bank other than the originator’s bank (i.e. Kontera’s bank) or the beneficiary’s bank (i.e. your bank) that acts in lieu of a direct SWIFT code.  A direct SWIFT code will allow the transmission of funds “directly” from one bank to another.  Unfortunately, a direct transmission is only available when sending a payment in the domestic currency of the destination bank.  Conversely, an intermediary bank is required when sending a payment in a currency other than that of the destination country.  For example, a USD payment to HSBC in Hong Kong will need to be routed via a US Bank.  Most banks that don’t have a direct SWIFT have their correspondent/intermediary banks in the USA or Europe.  Please contact your bank directly if you do not know your intermediary information or if you have any questions regarding your SWIFT code and whether your bank requires an intermediary bank to receive a payment from Kontera. Kontera issues its payments from a U.S. bank.

Intermediary Beneficiary Bank RTN or SWIFT BIC - Same as the SWIFT mentioned above, but applicable to the intermediary banking institution

Intermediary International Sort/Routing/Clearing Code - Same as the International Sort/Routing/Clearing code mentioned above, but applicable to the intermediary banking institution.

Intermediary Bank Address - Please be sure to include this information when updating your intermediary information.  If you do not know the intermediary bank address, please contact your bank directly.

If you require further assistance please contact us through the "Help" tab in the Publisher Center. To ensure your query is automatically directed to our Accounting Team, be sure to select "Payment Issue" from the drop-down menu.

Q: Can I set a limit of when payments are released to me?
A: Our minimum payment threshold is US $50. However, you can set a payment threshold amount that is higher than US $50 if you’d like.

To do this, log into the Publisher Center and select the “My Account” Tab. Follow the ‘Payment Method’ link and enter the amount of your choice in the appropriate field.

Q: Whom do I contact for questions regarding payments?
A: Please login to your account in the Publisher Center and click on the "Help" tab to send us an email with your question.

In the "Select Issue" field, please select "Payment Issue" and your email will be directed to the Kontera Accounting Department. A Kontera representative will get back to you within 3 business days.
